El proyecto ZERO CABIN WASTE (LIFE / ENV / ES209) está cofinanciado por la Unión Europea a través del programa LIFE. Los socios del proyecto son Iberia, Gate Gourmet, Ecoembes, Biogas Fuel Cell, Ferrovial y ESCI-UPF.
On Tuesday 9 October at 11.45-12.00, the UNESCO Chair in Life Cycle and Climate Change ESCI-UPF is holding a session about the “LIFE Zero Cabin Waste Project: Management of aviation waste. Environmental impacts from the perspective of the LCA,” at the RECUWASTE 2018 Congress (Mataró, Barcelona). This congress is aimed at both the economy of resources and local communities and innovation, with an eminently international approach. Thus, “attendees can hear about relevant experiences from around the world first-hand, share knowledge and learn from others, and once again confirm Mataró as an indelible point of reference in the world of municipal waste management,” according to the organisers.
Gonzalo Blanca-Alcubilla,PhD Candidate of the Waste Management Research Line at the Chair, is presenting the ‘LIFE Zero Cabin Waste* Project – Tackling international airline catering waste by demonstrating integral and safe recollection, separation & treatment,’ co-funded by the European Union through the LIFE Programme. This project “is intended to study the different waste streams generated in the aircraft cabin, to propose minimization measures and to implement separation of residues, as well as the collection and treatment of the different flows of waste,” explains Blanca-Alcubilla.
During the presentation of his paper “LIFE Zero Cabin Waste Project: Management of aviation waste. Environmental impacts from the perspective of the LCA,” Blanca-Alcubilla will explain to the attendees the impacts of the current catering waste management system in terms of greenhouse gases emissions, prior to the implementation of selective collection. These environmental impacts associated with all the stages of the system has been measured applying Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology, and the paper focuses on the stages with the greatest impact, which should be corrected.
About RECUWASTE
On October 8-9, the RECUWASTE 2018 Congress (formerly known as RECUWATT), comes back to Mataró under the theme “Transforming proximity to change globality.” This 2-days event is featuring presentations on experiences in waste management at an international level, workshops, environmental cinema of the International Festival of Environment Film, as well as an exhibition of innovative machinery.
The original format of RECUWATT “has continued evolving throughout the four previous editions, and has consolidated the Maresme Consortium for Municipal Solid Waste Treatment as an example of a Public Entity committed to the promotion and raising of awareness of third parties, administrations and private companies in the correct management of waste,” as stressed by organisers.
Cristina Campos, researcher at the UNESCO Chair in Life Cycle and Climate Change at ESCI-UPF, comments on the results of the presentation and the CICEP research project, as well as her experience at the 19th Conference on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems (SDEWES).
Cristina Campos, researcher at the UNESCO Chair in Life Cycle and Climate Change at ESCI-UPF, shares the results of the project presented by Dr. Alba Bala at the 14th International Conference LCAFood 2024, held last month in Barcelona.
The UNESCO Chair in Life Cycle and Climate Change at ESCI-UPF will participate in the LCAFood 2024 International Conference, held in Barcelona between September 8th and 12th.
